Robert "Bob" Punola
Robert C. (Bob) Punola, 85 of Imperial (formerly of Primrose), left us on June 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born January 30, 1933 to John and Anna (Mlinac) Punola in Primrose, PA and was a graduate of Hickory High School. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Toulouse in 1959. Bob was retired from PennDOT and had also worked at Consolidated Coal, Bethlehem Steel and Taylor Forge. He also served as the Tax Collector for Mt. Pleasant Township for 29 years. Bob was a life-long member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in McDonald, PA where he was a member of the finance council. In his younger days, Bob was well known as a left-handed pitcher in the Greater Pittsburgh Baseball League, including pitching at Forbes Field in a try-out for the Pirates. In his later years, Bob was known as a fearless competitor on the golf course, including winning the Wellsville (NY) Country Club member-guest 5 times. In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Bob is survived by a sister, Patricia (the late Jerome) Funaro of Hankey Farms, PA and a brother, John (Nancy) Punola of Madison, NJ. A sister, Barbara Olson preceded him in death. Also surviving Bob are two children, David (Diane) Punola of Fruitport, MI and Linda (Scott) McCracken of Coraopolis, PA and 3 granddaughters, Jennifer Punola of Altamonte Springs, FL, Emily Punola of Muskegon, MI and Olivia McCracken of Coraopolis, PA, plus a number of nieces and nephews. Bob’s life will be honored at the Thomas & Little Funeral Service, Inc. 314 W. Lincoln Avenue, McDonald (724-926-2800) on Sunday, July 1 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. A mass of Catholic burial will be held on July 2 at 12 Noon at St. Alphonsus R. C. in McDonald, Father Ben Vaghetto celebrating. Burial will be at the Robinson Run Cemetery in McDonald. The family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
