Obituary

Walter J. Terpin

Walter J. Terpin, 81, died in Charleston, SC, on February 3, 2019.

Walt was born in Bishop, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1937, to Joseph and Angeline Terpin. After graduating from Cecil High School, he attended Washington & Jefferson College, where he played nose tackle on the football team.

Following his graduation from college, he married Marlene Pogachnick in McDonald, Pennsylvania, and their marriage was blessed with a son and two daughters.

Walt and Marlene moved to North Carolina, where Walt served two years in the Army, stationed at Fort Bragg. He started his career in investment planning with Moore Leonard & Lynch, but with a new young family, decided instead to pursue pharmaceutical sales, where he had a 24-year career working for a start-up pharmaceutical company called Marion Laboratories.

While working in sales, Walt built their house by himself, and then started a small home-building business on the side. Walt retired from pharmaceutical sales at age 49, and then he and his wife Marlene moved to Dataw Island, South Carolina to enjoy golf and visits from their children and grandchildren.

Walt lived a very full and active life up until the past three months, when he suffered complications from a broken hip and subsequent stroke. Despite the infirmities of the last three months, he continued his infectious upbeat and positive attitude right until the day he passed.

Walt is remembered with love by his wife, Marlene; son, Greg Terpin (Annette Ganassi) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; daughter, Shari Guilfoile (Pete) of Dallas,Texas; daughter Janice Johnson (Tom) of Royersford, Pennsylvania; Patty Terpin; grandchildren Drew, Mike, & Dan Terpin; Haley, Blair & Will Guilfoile; Eric, Paul, Sarah & Mark Johnson; great-granddaughter CJ Guilfoile; brothers-in-law Bill (Dee) Pogachnick and Bob (Mickie) Pogachnick and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers: Joe, Chuck and Augie.

A Blessing Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 10:30 a.m.in the Chapel at Resurrection Cemetery, Moon Towhship.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson Voice Project (646 N. Coit Road, Suite 2250, Richardson, Texas 75080, parkinsonvoiceproject.org) or Saint Peter’s Catholic Church.

Our condolences to Marlene and family on the recent passing of Walter. I always enjoyed his company socially and on the golf course at Rolling Hills CC with Bill.
