Obituary

Thomas C. Garrett Sr., 78, of McDonald, Cecil Township, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Shadyside Hospital.

Tom was born on August 20, 1942 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Louis and Laura (Smith) Garrett.

Mr. Garrett was a retired building engineer, working on the PPG Place building. He was a dedicated member to the McDonald United Presbyterian Church in McDonald, where he could often be found fixing the church or helping anyone in need. Tom enjoyed traveling alongside his wife to the beach, Smoky Mountains and Sugarcreek, OH. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and a talented gardener. He was a jack of all trades, and enjoyed teaching all of his special skills to his family. Tom was most proud of the family that he and his wife raised over the years, and the time that he spent teaching, hunting, fishing and gardening with his five grandsons, who were his pride and joy.

Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Catherine Garrett, of McDonald, Cecil Township, children; Thomas β€œTom” (Missy) Garrett Jr., of McDonald and Laura (Rodney) Hendal, of Cecil, grandchildren; Andrew, Austin, and Alec Hendal, Beau and Cody Garrett, siblings; Louis (Bud) Garrett and Diane (Tudy) McFalls.

Friends and family will be received on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from Noon-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc., 314 W. Lincoln Ave., McDonald (724-926-2800). A service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2020 at McDonald U.P. Church, McDonald at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Robinson Run Cemetery, McDonald. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to McDonald U.P. Church, in honor of Tom.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, especially the nurses and cafeteria workers. Their care and love for Tom was exceptional and truly out of this world.

To better ensure the safety of the family and those closest, when entering the funeral home, please abide by CDC guidelines, please practice social distancing, wear a mask, and sanitize/wash hands frequently, and please limit your time within the funeral home.

Tom was such a pleasure to have working around the church office. He always stopped in to say hello and to make sure things were running smoothly. Especially in the colder months. He is already missed. My sympathies to his family and friends. I will be praying for you all in the days ahead. ~ Malisa Silassy

Mary Catherine , May God be with you and your family!! Tom was a first class man who always put his family first!! He always talked about you, your children and grandchildren. I met him back in 1983 when he hired me at the age of 19. He took a chance on hiring me and I am forever grateful !! I know for a fact that he heard β€œwell done my good and faithful servant β€œ the other day!! Gob Bless!!
